The North Orange County ROP proudly offers training to become a licensed vocational nurse. A Vocational Nursing certificate of completion provides you with the knowledge and skills necessary to become a licensed vocational nurse. A vocational nurse (VN) provides patient care to short-term and long-term healthcare facility residents. VNs pass their State Board Exam to become licensed vocational nurses (LVNs). LVNs work under the direct supervision of a registered nurse or doctor. LVN duties include assisting patients in basic hygiene, monitoring vital signs, and providing preliminary nursing care. Licensed vocational nurses also provide emotional support for patients and may work in hospitals, long-term care facilities, home health agencies, or residential care facilities. Some tasks an LVN performs include checking blood pressure, performing wound care, helping bathe or dress patients, helping to deliver, care for, and feed patients of all ages, administering medication, collecting samples for testing, and much more. To be successful, LVNs must be compassionate and caring individuals.
